Private, liberal arts college founded in 1853

Mount Vernon, Iowa (pop. 3,808), is less than 30 minutes from Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and 4-6 hours from Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Milwaukee and Omaha.

WORTH NOTING

The One-Course-At-A-Time academic calendar, begun in 1978, enables students to take a single course for 3½ weeks, with 9 terms a year. Students choose from approximately 60 courses each term; classes are capped at 25, with an average class size of 16.

More than 95% of Cornell graduates finish in four years or less; two-thirds earn a double major or a major and a minor.

Over two-thirds of Cornell graduates go on to graduate or professional school.

With 25 awardees, Cornell ranks 15th among 424 Division III schools in the number of NCAA Postgraduate Scholars.

Tuition, Fees, Room, and Board: $33,250

A majority of the student body receives need-based financial assistance.

Scholarships are awarded, regardless of need, to students with high academic ability or special talents in music, theater, or art.

Middle 50% GPA range: 3.2 - 3.9

Middle 50% ACT composite scores: 24-29

Middle 50% SAT composite scores: 1150-1350

28% graduated in the top 10% of their class; 55% in the top 25% of their class.

11% of new students were class presidents, 4% were editors, 20% were team captains, 20% were involved in theatre, and more than 25% were involved in music ensembles.
